The occasion was the launch in the Great Hall — such a long time since I have sat in there — of the Australian edition of God’s Politics, my earlier account of which you may read here. It is also the first time that I have heard Tim Costello, brother of the Australian Treasurer, in the flesh. Very impressive.
But the night really belonged to an Aboriginal woman who, during the question period, made an impassioned plea for us all to listen to her people’s stories, their ongoing suffering, and to embrace reconciliation. She got thunderous applause.
