The Bank — Robert Connolly (2001) — “a bold, timely and unashamed ‘statement’ film with one of the best movie punch lines you’re likely to hear at the pictures in a while.” Seems a must-watch in Howard’s Australia. (DVD).
That’s the director. Watch what he says.
The Boys — Rowan Woods (1997). (DVD) “…disturbing movie that left me unnerved and shaken.”
That’s the screen-writer.
Both had wonderful and contrasting performances from David Wenham, possibly now best known for his digitally enhanced role in 300. I preferred The Bank which confirms one’s worst suspicions about the global economy, and banks. It was just a bit too neat though… Good Aussie stories; we should encourage and support the telling of our own stories in our own way.
