I agree with much that Jim Belshaw says…

… while, as regulars will have noticed, we often come at issues in different ways. I do commend his Moral Courage, Fear, Technology and the Decline of the West, a thoughtful piece if ever there was, though I don’t think the title captures the content well enough. I won’t paraphrase Jim at length, but merely say his post expresses concerns about our construction of the concept “terrorism” and the drift in response towards a more authoritarian and intrusive state, with plenty of reference to policies and actions under John Howard.
